Week 2: Lost 4, Total 4

Yahoo!

No cheats this week! I had some thoughts about buttered popcorn and French fries, but I didn’t feel compelled to act on those thoughts. I’m getting excited to see some progress. It will happen.

I am planning to cut out cheese for a while. I have thought for a while that it might be preventing me from losing weight. Jonny’s boot camp doesn’t allow cheese. So I will try it.

Foods:
I eat 3 meals a day and rarely snack.
Breakfast is usually 3 eggs fried in butter and some black coffee.

At lunches and dinners, I usually have around 6 oz protein and either 2 cups salad or 1 cup cooked vegetable. I use a little butter on cooked vegetables and olive oil and/or mayo on salads.

Sample lunch and dinners:

Asian chicken soup with chicken, bok choy, cilantro and green beans.
Ground pork stir fry with bean sprouts and green beans.
Hamburger patty with cheese and roasted asparagus
Salmon and roasted cauliflower
Tuna salad with cucumber, romaine lettuce, left over green beans, olive oil and garlic
Green chile Chili with ground turkey, celery, zucchini and green peppers.
Pizza salad with pepperoni, provolone cheese, romaine lettuce, olive oil and fresh oregano.

Exercise:
3 hour hike
2 mile walk
1 hour of aerobics – step and elliptical combo
2-1 hour sessions of weight training

Avg Net Carbs: 22
Avg Calories: 1650

This next one is embarrasing to post, but what the hey!
Waist to Hip Ratio: 97% Should be closer to 80%

Blood Sugar: 95! Was 142 last week.

Weight: 241 - lost 4 this week!

Hi Hike2Health -

What a great blog name. I couldn't come up with any, so I'm using a name I've used since Ebay started. Just added my age to the end. It sounds like you are doing great and you have your plans all figured out. I did Atkins when I lived in Florida back in the early 90's and I lost a total of 34 lbs back then. It's amazing how fast the weight piles back on when you are totally off of any diets. My father and his mother are both type II diabetics. She has been dead since I was four, but my father just came into his around 50. He's now 80 and regulating what he eats. He didn't use to take insulin shots, just pills, now he has too since the pills aren't working. One thing that I'm mostly afraid of is losing the joints with this disease. I find that the joints deteriorate very fast. Keep up the great work and lets all get to our goal!!!! I have to pick it up as I just joined in yesterday!!!! Huff, huff, huff.....(running to catch up)

Hi Mo: I have my plans, but I sure struggle with thoughts of food. Yesterday it was cookies.

I want to save my joints too! I take glucosamine and chondroitin. Avoiding carbs helps too. Plus some kind of exercise helps the joints by swooshing the synovial fluid in and out of the joints which provides nutrients and washes out waste. Bottom line is that eating low carb forever is good for many other things.

Thanks for stopping by!

I hardly ever exercise on my own. I started by taking classes. Then I started working with a personal trainer twice a week. I thought she would just show me what to do and then I would work out on my own. But I realized I'm not good at that. So I still meet with her twice a week at a specific time. There are a few others who work out at the same time and it has become a fun group.

It is important to get out and do something even if you don't feel like it. Once you are out there, it will be fine. I find that the weather is never as bad as it seems from inside a nice cozy house. I don't live in a hot climate though!

Just put one foot in front of the other!
